Unrivaled Processing Performance on Rugged, Deployable Intel Xeon D Processor Boards

Since announcing their first single board computers (SBCs) based on the Intel® Xeon® D-1500 family of processors in 2015, Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) has been busy, developing an industry-leading portfolio of embedded Xeon D products that is still growing.

These embedded SBCs provide designers with feature-rich computing solutions that are equally at home in a broad range of industries and applications, from challenging industrial environments to rugged defence deployments.

Originally available with up to eight cores, the Xeon D processors from Intel are now available with support for 12 and 16 cores in a single processor. Integrated on X-ES VPX SBCs, these high-performance, low-power processors are ideally suited for a variety of applications and infrastructure, including routers, network appliances, and battlefield communications.

Xeon D is also the first Intel processor with native extended temperature support, a key requirement for many defence and aerospace applications. Xeon D processors with up to 12 cores are rated by the manufacturer for an operating temperature range of -40⁰C to 85⁰C.

Keeping pace with strong demand from the defence and aerospace sectors, X-ES continues to introduce new products and features to their Xeon® D lineup. Their talented design engineering team draws upon an impressive breadth of experience with this architecture to minimise risk for even the most challenging designs.

There are a number of configurations available, including 3U VPX, 6U VPX, and COM Express form factors. For more information please contact Christos or Nigel who can discuss your application with you in detail.

LinkedIn isn’t Facebook, Honest!

I know it’s Friday. And I am, like many of you, very happy about that.

But is LinkedIn really the place for me to tell everyone I’m going to drown myself in wine and Doritos this weekend?

I really like LinkedIn. I also really like Facebook, but they are very different beasts. I use LinkedIn to keep in touch with my professional contacts. It’s perfect for sharing interesting articles, websites and events, and keeping up to date with what my contacts are talking about. Professionally.

If you like LinkedIn and want to use it properly PLEASE don’t use it like Facebook. Don't post pictures of cats in dresses, or tell me what you had for breakfast. It will just distract me and get me into trouble. And as a fellow professional I’m sure you wouldn’t want that. As for posting comments; as a general rule, if it would make your mother frown - don't write it!

That’s because LinkedIn is for professional networking. Not social networking.

All that being said, this is a blog. And I am VERY glad it’s Friday!!

Have a great weekend!

Are you a 'Social' Company?

There are many companies whose employees are banned from using social media at work. Yet those same companies often have feeds and pages across all the best known sites. So why do some companies see social media as a beneficial resource of information for a company and its employees, and others, well, just don't?

Many companies still view social media as a “build it and they will come” exercise, creating pages on Facebook, setting up a Twitter feed, and starting a blog to share their 'message', expecting an influx of new followers and, as a result, business. But it doesn’t happen overnight, so can be percieved as a failure when it doesnt yield results immediately...

As far as our industry is concerned, business is a large percentage social. There can be months, or even years of interaction before a project starts generating income. Social media gives you a great opportunity to share news, events and general industry updates with your customers, especially when a project update isn't required.

Social networks are best used for communicating and sharing information. There is no pressure on the customer to respond, and they can take their time to read something they are interested in, without feeling ‘sold to’. That being said, because social media allows you to actually have a no-strings conversation, it helps create a community of followers that see you as more than just a business entity. They’ll view you as someone they trust, and people prefer to buy from people they trust.

Here at Sarsen we run a Blog, Twitter feed and monthly News Bytes email. We’ve just started putting together a Pinterest page, and our LinkedIn page is updated regularly. If you'd like to see what we're talking about you can click one of the following icons to find out more.

Welcome to the Blogosphere....

We’ve been blogging for a couple of years now, and have featured a plethora (excellent word) of stories, including new products, staff introductions, hard hitting exposés on life in the Sarsen team, and even a few "Fun Fridays" here and there. (Ok, the ‘hard hitting exposé bit might be a teeny exaggeration)….

Well some of our manufacturers have climbed aboard the blogging bandwagon, and you should check them out...

Trenton Systems have worked hard to fill their blog with all kinds of goodness. Products, solutions, industry news, and how they are using the latest technology, including Ultra HD TV and iPad apps for video wall control.
You can check it out here - Trenton Systems Blog and you can follow by email or RSS feed.

UEI have also started blogging in the last month. They used the blog to feature info about their newest chassis – the FLATRACK™, and have since given you a little peek into their enormous library of technical know-how.

You’ve reached the Sarsen Blog. Lucky you!

If it’s your first visit, welcome. If you’ve been here before, welcome back! If you accidentally clicked the wrong link you should stick around… You might learn something!

We started 2013 with Green Month. January has seen our blog feature some pretty cool technology involved in renewable energy, global warming data collection, utility monitoring and wind turbines, as well as our super-informative Spotlight Series.

This month is ‘Financial February’. We’ll be bringing you all the latest product news for the high speed financial trading market, available from our 10 US manufacturers. We will also be sharing all the insider news and views from our exhibition stand at the Low Latency Summit on February 19th in London. We’ll be on stand 105 alongside BittWare and their latest Altera Stratix V FPGA hardware and software technology, with a very special feature showcasing the OpenCL tools designed for low-latency financial trading.

If that wasn’t enough we’ll also be shining the Spotlight on another member of the Sarsen team, and sharing some more trade secrets about the exciting technology we are lucky enough to be involved with.

See you on Tuesday for the first Sarsen Spotlight post of February 2013!

Analog Input Module from General Standards Corp....

Here at Sarsen we are always excited when one of our manufacturers releases a new product.

General Standards have recently announced a wide-range 24-Bit, 16-channel, 105KSPS analog input module, with 16 wide-range (high-Level, low-Level) delta-sigma input channels.

It’s available in PMC, PCI, cPCI and PC104-Plus and PCI Express form factors, and uses the PMC form factor as a basic template.

The 24DSI16WRC is packed with features, including -

- 16 wide-range differential 24-Bit simultaneously-sampled analog input channels.

- Input sample rates to 105 Kilosamples per second per channel.

- Software-selectable analog input ranges of ±10mV, ±100mV, ±1V, ±10V.

- Delta-Sigma input conversion minimizes or eliminates the need for antialias filtering.

- 256K-sample analog input FIFO buffer.

- Continuous and Burst One-shot sampling modes.

- Sample clock source selected as internal or external.

- Supports multiboard synchronization of analog inputs.

- On-demand internal offset and gain autocalibration of all analog inputs.

- 4-Bit bi-directional digital port.

- Software-controlled master clock frequency fine-adjustment.

- 66MHz PCI support, with universal 5V/3.3V signaling and DMA support.

- Large FPGA supports optional features such as counter/timers.
Optimized for flexibility and performance, the board is ideal for a wide variety of applications, ranging from simple precision voltage measurements, to the analysis of complex audio signals and waveforms.
Each of 16 analog input channels contains a lowpass image filter, and a delta-sigma A/D converter that provides inherent antialias suppression and sharp cutoff lowpass filtering. An internal voltage reference can be applied to all channels to support self-test operations and auto calibration.
