The aim of the Swindon FPGA Meetup is to provide a forum where people
based in the Swindon area who have an active interest in Field
Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology can get together to discuss
industry developments in hardware & software tools, verification,
architectures, simulation, verification and test.
We aim to connect local Engineers and Technologists who are working in
the electronics industry and using FPGAs in their projects and
applications. Rather than selling solutions, we want to share our
industry knowledge and experience to further our collective technical
expertise.
The first meetup is scheduled for Tuesday, July 18th at The Plough on the Hill near Swindon, and the organisers will provide food and a beer.
If there are any topics you would like to discuss please join the Swindon FPGA Group on Meetup.
Graham Pitcher from New Electronics has been looking into the new TechWorks organisation, which has been created to support the UK’s technology sector and to make it easier for the business and technology communities to build partnerships across government, academia and industry.
TechWorks has been established as an umbrella organisation which is looking to give the UK’s technology sector a significant nudge in the right direction.
According to the newly formed group, it will operate ‘beyond established silos’
by creating connected technical and business communities, identifying
common challenges and developing the UK tech ecosystem, and building
partnerships across industry, academia and government.
The
organisation is being chaired by Sir Hossein Yassaie, pictured, recently
CEO of Imagination Technology. “We believe we have the last major
chance to do something significant in the UK and the timing is right
because there have been major changes in the industry.”
Essentially succeeding the NMI, TechWorks is recognising the role which
finance plays in the technology world. “We’re bringing in financial
people for the first time,” Sir Hossein continued. “They could be the
missing element, but the finance sector hasn’t been involved before.
They are now the focus and we believe the community is now ready for
it.”
We share all the latest product announcements, industry news and general excitement from the 12 manufacturers we work with in our monthly News Bytes email.
It's been going for over 3 years, and although it has evolved over time News Bytes still provides readers with a wide range of technology and solutions.
May's edition is released tomorrow - Thurs 29th May, so sign up now to receive the latest news, reviews and technical papers from the embedded industry.
The manufacturers we work with have been selected not only for their industry-leading technology solutions, but also for their commitment to customer service and quality.
All of the products available from our manufacturers are designed from the ground up for high reliability, and manufactured and tested to the highest quality standards. VersaLogic Corp has built its reputation on very high reliability products and superior service - a 35-year history of consistency has earned VersaLogic the reputation of being one of the industry's most trusted embedded computer companies. Their ultra-low failure rates have enabled them to increase the warranty period for their products from two years to five years.
That's more than double the industry average!
"With over three decades of proven performance in mission critical applications, we are completely confident that our embedded computers are the most reliable on the market today," said Bruce McKinnon, Chief Operating Officer of VersaLogic. "Robust engineering and the highest levels of quality are of paramount importance to VersaLogic and our customers. Our new extended warranty is proof of this focus."
And good news for existing customers - VersaLogic's new five-year warranty program covers all active VersaLogic manufactured products going forward, as well as retroactive coverage for products already in the field.

There are many companies whose employees are banned from using social media at work. Yet those same companies often have feeds and pages across all the best known sites. So why do some companies see social media as a beneficial resource of information for a company and its employees, and others, well, just don't?
Many companies still view social media as a “build it and they will come” exercise, creating pages on Facebook, setting up a Twitter feed, and starting a blog to share their 'message', expecting an influx of new followers and, as a result, business. But it doesn’t happen overnight, so can be percieved as a failure when it doesnt yield results immediately...
As far as our industry is concerned, business is a large percentage social. There can be months, or even years of interaction before a project starts generating income. Social media gives you a great opportunity to share news, events and general industry updates with your customers, especially when a project update isn't required.
Social networks are best used for communicating and sharing information. There is no pressure on the customer to respond, and they can take their time to read something they are interested in, without feeling ‘sold to’. That being said, because social media allows you to actually have a no-strings conversation, it helps create a community of followers that see you as more than just a business entity. They’ll view you as someone they trust, and people prefer to buy from people they trust.
Here at Sarsen we run a Blog, Twitter feed and monthly News Bytes email. We’ve just started putting together a Pinterest page, and our LinkedIn page is updated regularly. If you'd like to see what we're talking about you can click one of the following icons to find out more.
As the world's largest trade fair of its kind, embedded world is a must for everyone who has dipped their toe or even plunged headfirst into the design and development of embedded hardware and software.
But embedded world is much more than just a trade fair.
This is where people come together for work, discussions and learning, and where the present and future of the embedded sector and industry are brought together.
As a leading international world fair with its exclusive focus on embedded technologies, the embedded world Exhibition & Conference mirrors the trends of the sector. This year our friends at Tech Source will be demonstrating some exciting new XMC graphics technology in hall 1, stand 138. Established in 1987, Tech Source has been a pioneer in high performance computer graphics hardware solutions for niche markets, and the Condor product line includes a range of XMC/VPX based COTS products that are targeted towards extended temperature and rugged applications such as avionics, defense and industrial applications.
You can also visit the DAVE Embedded Systems team at the show, where they will be showcasing their range of CPU modules covering ARM and PowerPC architectures, from entry level models right through to high end ruggedized boards. DAVE will also be introducing some brand new technology at the event, so make sure you stop by Hall 4, Stand 559 to see some of the smallest embedded boards on the market!
DAVE Embedded Systems at embedded world 2013
