Rugged Embedded Single Board Computers with a 5 Year Warranty?

The manufacturers we work with have been selected not only for their industry-leading technology solutions, but also for their commitment to customer service and quality.

All of the products available from our manufacturers are designed from the ground up for high reliability, and manufactured and tested to the highest quality standards. VersaLogic Corp has built its reputation on very high reliability products and superior service - a 35-year history of consistency has earned VersaLogic the reputation of being one of the industry's most trusted embedded computer companies. Their ultra-low failure rates have enabled them to increase the warranty period for their products from two years to five years.

That's more than double the industry average!

"With over three decades of proven performance in mission critical applications, we are completely confident that our embedded computers are the most reliable on the market today," said Bruce McKinnon, Chief Operating Officer of VersaLogic. "Robust engineering and the highest levels of quality are of paramount importance to VersaLogic and our customers. Our new extended warranty is proof of this focus."

And good news for existing customers - VersaLogic's new five-year warranty program covers all active VersaLogic manufactured products going forward, as well as retroactive coverage for products already in the field.

Automated Blood Collections Systems - VersaLogic Helps Make Giving Blood Today Even Easier!

The 14th June, (thats today!), sees countries around the world observe World Blood Donor Day.

Established in 2004, World Blood Donor Day helps to raise awareness of the need for safe blood products, and thanks all the very lovely voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

A generous donor giving the gift of blood

VersaLogic have been involved with a project to design and build an Automated Blood Collection System, which collects a combination of red blood cells, platelets and plasma from donors. These highly integrated, computerised systems minimise the need for human intervention, integrate key functions, and provide important data at a moment's notice, maximising the efficiency of blood centre operations.

Blood components separated by a centrifuge - Plasma, White Blood Cells and Platelets, and Red Blood Cells

Driving the FDA-approved system is a VersaLogic EBX single board computer that automates the collection process. The state-of-the-art technology uses cell separators that allow for the division of the various blood components in a high-speed centrifugal field while the device is still connected to the donor. This process allows collection of any combination of red blood cells, platelets, and plasma while returning unneeded components to the donor, allowing more frequent donations.

Blood transfusions help save millions of lives every year. They can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer with a better quality of life, and support complex medical and surgical procedures.

So why not do something amazing - give blood.

Green Month Feature - Monitoring Polar Ice Caps with VersaLogic

Believe it or not, with the weather we’ve been having, scientists believe that the world is heating up much faster than previously thought. My driveway might disagree though.

Much of the scientific evidence comes from data collected by measuring the thickness, density and composition of the polar ice caps. And the evidence has been checked and double checked – the ice is definitely melting. This will eventually cause a serious rise in sea level.

Getting true measurements is a real challenge, as the ice isn't uniform. Cracks and ridges, as well as varying depths and density, can make accurate data collection difficult.

The GeoSwath wide swath sonar system, from Kongsberg GeoAcoustics (UK), is fitted to the Gavia autonomous vehicle, and shot through a hole melted through the ice to complete a series of short out-and-back data collection missions.

The GeoSwath features the VersaLogic Cobra EBX board, which controls the sonar ‘transmit and receive’ electronics, and generates a 3D digital terrain map of the ice by collecting bathymetry and side scan data of the Arctic ice sub-sheet. The data collected is used to significantly improve the understanding of the ice, and helps to improve the accuracy of parameters used in climate change modelling.

For more information on the VersaLogic range of embedded EBX computers, including the new Copperhead Core i7 board, please contact Sarsen Technology on +44 1672 511166, or drop us an email.

PS - The Sarsen Team have been battling the ice and snow ourselves – our own scientific measuring (a tape measure in the garden at home in our wellies) showed an impressive 7” of snow – more than we’ve had in Wiltshire for quite a while!

Roadshow Update - Friday 2 October

The European Defence & Aerospace Manufacturing Technology Roadshow visited BAE Systems Aerosystems International in Yeovil on Friday 2nd October. There was a good turn out from a number of the departments at the site. The Trenton Systems 19" Rackmount embedded computing systems and the VersaLogic EBX format single board computers were the solutions of most interest. The Sarsen Technology sarsen stone/rock giveaways are still proving popular. Yeovil is a town dominated by helicopter technology and businesses focussed on that market. The Friday afternoon drive home was made more enjoyable by listening to the new CD compilation provided by Darren Taylor at BittWare. Thanks again Darren!
