Sarsen technology hosts work experience student from local school!

Hi! My name is Harvey and I’m on Work Experience here at Sarsen Technology from the 7th to the 11th July and also I come from the school St Johns.

Let’s Talk About Me!

I’m 15 years old, soon to become 16 in December. I have a monthly job delivering a paper round in the area that I live. I have a few hobbies, including biking, football and playing video games with my mates.  I want to be involved in engineering in my future career so I hope this work experience will help me decide which path I want to take.

What do I want to achieve whilst being at Sarsen?

I want to know if this is the sort of thing that I would like to do in Engineering later in life, eg financial or technical support. I hope that being able to learn about the different aspects of the company will give me a good idea about the area I would like to work in.

Why Did I Choose Sarsen Technology?

I picked Sarsen because it’s a local engineering company who are successful across a number of different technologies. What they do was intriguing to me, and I wanted to see what their part in engineering was, for example – do they make products, how they sell them etc. They can teach me about the types of engineering they do, and can give me advice for the future!

Sarsen Technology Hits the Road

Sarsen Technology is one of twenty companies taking part in the 2013 Dream Marketing Defence & Aerospace Manufacturing Technology Roadshow. The roadshow started Monday at BAE Systems in Barrow, and continues for the next 3 weeks across the UK visiting many of the industry's major design, development and research facilities along the way.

Today is day 3 and our second day at Rolls Royce in Derby. After a busy day yesterday we are hoping to have many more good conversations about our products with the engineers and project managers in Derby.

The show then hits the road again for stays at Selex in Basildon and Safran Power in Pitstone to complete Week 1.

There is a good mix of technology solutions on the roadshow, from component suppliers and memory manufacturers right through to ceramic bearings and injection moulding services.

If you are at a site on the Roadshow schedule and you’d like to meet the Sarsen team please get in touch on +44 1672 511166, or email us – info@sarsen.net

While the boss is away......

The boss has gone away, and left us to fend for ourselves for a week.

Time to sit back, watch some virals on YouTube, drink copious amounts of tea and generally relax.

Right?

Wrong.

It’s easy to feel a bit inattentive when the boss is away, but we don't have time to put our feet up - this week is another busy one for Sarsen. We have quotes to send out, customers to visit and new enquiries to follow up. It’s also a good time to start looking at 2013, with marketing plans to be drawn up, and exhibitions schedules to look at.

And speaking of exhibitions, the next one on the Sarsen calendar is the Advanced Engineering UK Show on 7th /8th November at the NEC in Birmingham. Tim Norris will be representing Sarsen Technology at the show, if you would like to meet up with him to discuss a new project, or one of our products in particular, please drop us a line.

Oh. And FYI, there are only 8 weekends left before Christmas!!

Fun Friday at Marlborough Mop!

The Sarsen Technology office is situated in the picturesque town of Marlborough, UK.
This pretty market town has one of the widest high streets in the country, which is just as well....

Every summer the town holds a jazz festival with local pubs, clubs, hotels and various other venues playing host to live jazz music over the course of a weekend. Being a market town, of course there is a weekly market, and a Farmer's market every other Saturday.

Every October the high street is closed for the two Saturdays either side of 11 October for the Marlborough Mop Fair. Which makes today 'Mop-Setting-Up Day'!

It was originally a hiring fair for workers seeking employment. Farm workers, labourers, and servants would work for their employer from October to October. At the end of the employment they would attend the fair dressed in their Sunday best clothes and carrying an item signifying their trade. A servant with no particular skills would carry a mop head. Because so many people gathered at a fair, it quickly turned into the major place for matching workers and employers.

The right of the town to close the road to hold the fair is set down in the 1204 Charter. So it's been running for over 800 years. And it's changed a bit over the centuries.....

The High Street gets cordoned off at Friday lunchtime and the fair rolls into town ready to be set up for the weekend's festivities. Back in Victorian times mops became giant fun fairs, originally driven by steam. Today huge generators create the electricity for the rides and the amplifiers that blast music the length of the High Street. It's definitely one for the kids!!

As we speak, the lorries are arriving with their trailers stacked high with the waltzers, dodgems, and big wheel, ready to assemble like a giant Meccano kit, or unfold like Optimus Prime.

It doesn't take long for the teams to get the rides up and running; the site manager must be a puzzle genius to make it all fit but it works, and it looks fantastic from the top of the big wheel!

Have a great weekend. We're off to get some candy floss!

7 Reasons to Choose United Electronic Industries for all your Data Acquisition and Control Requirements......

Founded in 1990, United Electronic Industries (UEI) is a leader in the PC/Ethernet data acquisition and control, Data Logger/Recorder and Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) markets. Their ‘Cube’ chassis offers incredible I/O flexibility, accommodating up to 6 I/O boards from a selection of over 25. Sarsen Technology has represented UEI in the UK for nearly 2 years.

There are so many reasons why you would benefit from choosing a UEI solution; these are just a handful….

1.       They get around….
UEI products are used in a huge variety of applications, including Simulator I/O, in-vehicle test (flight and ground), UAV/ULV/USV control, electronic production test, machine and vehicle health monitoring, temperature monitoring, wind power system control, vehicle frame stress testing, jet engine test and much more. Whether your application is on the ocean floor, on land or boat, in the air, or in space, UEI products have been there!

2.       Thinking outside the ‘Cube’
UEI have over 25 different available I/O layers, as well as a host of other boards and accessories, meaning they can be creative in finding innovative solutions for customers, responding to their needs with standard products and variations so they can complete their systems successfully, on time, and within budget. UEI offers both COTS and custom products to OEMs, end-users, and systems integrators worldwide.

3.       Green is the new Black
All Cube and RACKtangle™ chassis products and accessories are fully RoHS Compliant. This includes all UEI products that begin with: DNA, DNR, UEIPAC, UEISIM or UEILOGGER, including all chassis, I/O boards and accessories.

4.       Speaking your language
UEI supports all popular Windows, Vista, Linux and Real-time operating systems, programming languages, and application packages such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, and DASYLab.

5.       Location, Location, Location
United Electronic Industries is represented in nearly all of the US States, as well as across the globe, as far as Australia and Japan. We are all eager to talk to you, and help you put together an ideal solution to match your application.

6.       Bend Me, Shape Me, Any Way You Want Me
The UEI cube is not in any way bendy. In fact it’s very rugged! But it is uniquely flexible, with the ability to be used as an Ethernet I/O slave, standalone data logger, a standalone Linux-based PAC or a Modbus Slave. With I/O interfaces for analog I/O, digital I/O, counter/timer, ARINC-429, quadrature encoder, CAN-bus, serial I/O and more, you can precisely match the I/O configuration to your application.

7.       They’re in it for the Long Haul
All hardware manufactured by UEI is warranted for 2 years to the original purchaser and UEI guarantees the availability of all RACKtangle/Cube series products for a minimum of 10 years.

If this hasn’t convinced you, give us a call or check out the UEI pages on our website for more information. http://www.sarsen.net/dept/united-electronic-industries_d0141.htm
