7 Years at Sarsen Technology

Author - Laura Biddiscombe

This month marks the 7 year anniversary of my joining the Sarsen Technology team. It feels like only yesterday I was stood in the doorway in the pouring rain, waiting for the buzzer to open the door for my first interview. I'm sure it definitely feels like 7 years to Nigel sometimes!

I joined the team in 2008 as Sales Support for one of our previous product lines. You can read the Press Release here. I also had a fabulous *mug* head shot taken.
Later that year I moved into the role of Account Manager, looking after and developing some of our biggest accounts. It was during this time that I realised I was a bit of a geek, and that getting overly excited about 'Space Parts' wasn't exactly cool, but I couldn't (and still can't) help it. The first time I sold Space Qualified parts I actually printed out the quote and had it on the wall for a few months. Please don't judge me.

This nerdiness came to the fore the first year I visited DSEI - 2011. One of our boards was being used in a bomb disposal robotic vehicle that was on display at the show - kids at Christmas had nothing on my excitement level that day.

At the end of 2011 Nigel offered me the chance to move into the embedded side of the business, looking primarily at the VersaLogic PC/104 product line, and taking on some of the marketing activity day to day. This was a big change to component sales, but one I really enjoyed. I remember feeling completely out of my depth, but everyone was very patient with me and I'm still learning new things every day.

Having been at the same company for 7 years I've had the opportunity to work with some brilliant people, and have made some great connections all over the world. I've had the chance to travel, visit customers and be involved in incredible projects, including space applications (although I've learnt to disguise my excitement a little better these days).

I'm eager to start my 8th year at Sarsen Technology - this year is going to be an exciting one! We're taking part in DSEI 2015, and have a new member of staff taking on the United Electronic Industries product line, as well as new technology and products to introduce every single month. No two days are the same, and you never know what we'll be talking about tomorrow.

Sarsen Technology Adds to the Obesity Crisis

We really do work with some lovely people....

The exceptionally nice folks at Sema4 have sent over a box of goodies today, and of course it would be rude not to open it and share the contents.

Yes, thats right, share. "One for me, one for you. One for me, one for me, one for me.... one for you!"

Thanks very much for reminding us that diets are over-rated and that biscuits are way better!

Meet the Sarsen Team!!

A recurring thought when working with our partners round the globe is that it would be great to be able to put a face to a name, especially when you’re speaking to the same people every day.

So, by popular request, here is our guide to the main players at Sarsen Technology, in no particular order….

Colleen Jameson – Colleen is our Office Administrator. She manages the day to day administration for the sales team to ensure things run smoothly, as well as all the business admin that goes on behind the scenes. She is first point of contact for our manufacturers and organises all of the events and exhibitions we attend. She is also organising our Christmas party this year, which is probably the most important job she will have to do in 2012!

Tim Norris
Twitter - @embedded_tim
Tim is one of our UK account managers. His role is to engage with a set of key accounts and to understand their technical requirements in terms of embedded hardware. Tim has been working with Sarsen Technology for 6 years and has experience providing solutions on the complete range of products.

Lynn Scholefield – Lynn is our ‘numbers lady’. She is very popular with the team because she arranges payment of salaries. She also has to channel her inner terrier to chase up the overdue invoices and hound customers for payment! Lynn juggles cash flows and foreign currency requirements, and analyses the many pages of data that summarises how the company is doing financially.

Robbie Burns

Robbie is one of our UK account managers, and is responsible for some of our largest customers. Robbie works remotely, spending a lot of time on the road meeting with existing and potential customers, and attending local industry events including WEAF.  Also answers to Vic.

Laura Jeffs
Twitter - @laura_sarsen
Laura is both the newest member of the team, and one of the longest serving.  Laura was promoted to Product Manager in December 2011, having represented another service for Sarsen previously. Laura is the liaison for United Electronic Industries and VersaLogic Corp, and coordinates the marketing activity and sales support for these manufacturers.

Nigel Norman
Twitter - @nigel_sarsen

Nigel is the captain of the Sarsen ship. Nigel started Sarsen Technology in 2000, and the company has grown significantly in the last 12 years. He has lived in the Marlborough area for 15 years and enjoys developing the business, working with his colleagues at Sarsen, sailing, music festivals with his teenage kids (when the sun is shining), football and playing cricket for the village team.

There are lots of other people who help Sarsen stay a well oiled machine, but these are the people you will speak to day to day at the Sarsen Technology office in Marlborough, Wiltshire.
We're a nice bunch - give us a call on +44 1672 511166 and we'll tell you all about our products and services.

Business Link: The Magic of Web Marketing Seminar

Nigel attended the Business Link South West "Magic of Web Marketing" seminar presented by Alan Poulton at the Cricklade Hotel & Country Club in Wiltshire this morning. A well attended event with over 60 in the audience from a very broad range of industries. This was the second web marketing event that Nigel had attended and it was a very useful review of the current web world. Alan did a great job and Google seemed to be in every second sentence!

European Defence & Aerospace Manufacturing Technology Roadshow 2009 - Day 16

The road show reached its final destination today at EADS in Newport, south Wales. Sarsen Technology was the exhibitor with the largest number of visitor enquiries over the 16 days of the UK tour and John Aldridge, owner of Dream Marketing, presented Nigel with an "outstanding contribution" award (principally for being the only person to attend every single one of the 16 days).

The road show was a successful event for Sarsen and raised our profile greatly at a number of key UK defence and aerospace OEMs.

The tour continues this week at Airbus in Toulouse. Sarsen Technology will not be travelling to France but we wish our colleagues at BittWare and EMG2 every success.
