Cyber Security Technology - Who, Where, Why, When and How in the Southwest!

WHO is CyNam?

CyNam is a non-profit networking organisation for the UK's cyber security and technology
community in the South West of England.

WHERE are they based?

Up until quite recently, cyber hubs and technology investment groups have focused their activity around Bristol, Birmingham and Oxford, but Cheltenham has calibre for cyber technology, particularly within the areas of big data analysis and information security initiatives.

WHY was CyNam created?

The goal of CyNam, which launched in 2016, is to bring together industry innovators from local SME’s and start-ups to make full use of the strong cyber security community around Cheltenham.

WHEN can I get involved?

CyNam hosts regular cyber events once a quarter and they are attended by senior business leaders in the cyber field as well as young start-ups and entrepreneurs. Nigel Norman, MD - Sarsen Technology has attended some of these events and found them incredibly useful for networking as well as discussing new technology and developments in the cyber arena with other interested parties.

CyNam has been shortlisted for the 2019 Cyber Security Awards, as 'Not for Profit Team of the Year’. The awards are on 4th July and we wish CyNam the best of luck in their category!

HOW do we support Cyber Security at Sarsen?

Sarsen Technology supports a wide variety of cyber security, intelligence, surveillance and secure communications projects across the UK. The applications we support must accommodate the strictest security measures as well as aggressive data bandwidths, and in most cases must reduce size, weight, and power (SWaP).

We work with some of the best manufacturers in the world to supply a select range of unique products including 19” rackmount systems and FPGA based hardware. The latest addition to our product line is REFLEX CES, whose designs and solutions for both evaluation and prototyping, are built using the latest FPGA technology solutions based on Intel FPGA or Xilinx FPGA, modified COTS, or full turnkey designs.

myOPALE - Modular Building Blocks for AI on the Edge

ECRIN Systems designs and manufactures rugged VPX COTS Boards, Mil-COTS and rugged systems, and their core business is the integration of COTS building blocks from Open Standard form factors like PICMG 1.3, to achieve the best system performance at reduced cost and shortest time to market.

Read More about ECRIN Systems

One of their latest solutions is the myOPALE building block system, which provides truly disruptive technology to realise ambitious design goals for industrial computers that target size, weight, and power consumption (SWaP)-constrained operating environments.

The myOPALE modular concept is based on four key points, all inspired by open or de facto standards used in the embedded market. It eliminates the mechanical link between the CPU module and its I/O cards thanks to PCI Express Gen3-over- cable interconnection in a standard half-height 5.25-inch casing.

The design is based on COM Express Type 6 and integrates Embedded Low Power SKU’s with 10 years life support. In Skylake and Kaby Lake versions, Intel Core i7 or Xeon E3-1500 CPU with Chipset platforms are selected, which directly drive 24 PCIe Gen3 lanes as their expansion bus.

There are a wide range of configurations and options available. If you would like to discuss the myOPALE concept please contact us at info@sarsen.net.

ECRIN can provide a complete integrated computer with Environmental Qualification Tests passed and mandatory Certification stickers for domestic and export countries. ive 24 PCIe Gen3 lanes as their expansion bus.

Rapid Growth Fuels X-ES Move to New Corporate Headquarters

To accommodate their continuing growth, the lovely people at Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) have moved to a fabulous new corporate headquarters in Verona, WI.

Completed in September of 2018, the combined office and manufacturing space is located at 9901 Silicon Prairie Parkway, approximately six miles from the company’s previous headquarters in Middleton, WI.

The new 126,200 sq. ft. facility is a significant upgrade from the 50,000 sq. ft. Middleton facility. The new building offers more office space and improved amenities for employees and customers, including more than twice the meeting space.

The design by KEE Architecture features a central atrium and clerestory windows that provide abundant natural light to offices and common areas. The building is situated on a green and open 13.8 acres, leaving ample room to grow as the company continues to expand.

Nearly half of the new facility is devoted to a state-of-the-art manufacturing space, where X-ES performs final product assembly, integration, and testing.

The 60,000 sq. ft. manufacturing area is temperature-, humidity-, and ESD-controlled, and as part of this expansion X-ES has acquired 165 new workbenches, six new thermal chambers for temperature testing, and one new shaker for shock and vibration testing.

To achieve ambitious goals for long-term energy savings, X-ES worked with the Wisconsin Focus on Energy Business Incentive Program to incorporate equipment and practices that reduce energy waste, such as network lighting controls and energy-efficient heating and cooling equipment. The estimated electricity savings over the life of the equipment is more than eight million kilowatt hours, and the estimated lifecycle natural gas savings equates to almost 49,000 gallons of gasoline.

If you'd like more information about X-ES please send us an email.
