Countdown to DSEi 2013. And Christmas.

90 days until Christmas.
   ...142 days until Valentine's Day.
      ...... 350 days until DSEi 2013!!

Yes indeed!
Its time to get our thinking caps on again, and come up with some ideas on how to make our week more successful than ever before.

DSEi 2011 was a great exhibition for Sarsen Technology; we spoke to loads of new people about our broad range of embedded hardware, and came away with lots of follow up to do, with new opportunities and projects to investigate. It was also a great way for us to show off our new branding..

This time, with our new logos and colour scheme in place, it will be even more focussed on the products, with more demonstration units than ever before, and plenty of experts on hand from our manufacturers to help us answer any questions you might have. We'll be showcasing single board computers, FPGA technology, digital signal processing, data acquisition and high-speed data recording COTS technology, as well as integrated rugged ATR chassis systems and industrial 19" rackmount embedded computing systems.

This year our manufacturers have released many new products, with even more scheduled for production before Christmas. DSEi is a great opportunity to come and see all the new designs and technologies from the defence and security industry's brightest bods.

Last year we ran a competition to win an iPad.... Who knows what you could win at DSEi 2013!?

VersaLogic launches BRAND NEW family of Embedded Single Board Computers

Roughly the size of a credit card and less than one inch thick, the Falcon is the industry’s smallest, lightest weight, and lowest power x86 rugged, embedded computer.

The new Falcon EPU release from VersaLogic means we are talking to people about all kids of applications, including Mil-Aero, Medical, Security, R&D and Robotics. It’s a really compact board, (weighing under 40g) so it’s also a brilliant solution for use in for portable applications and unmanned systems where Size, Weight and Power consumption (SWaP) are critical design elements.

It’s the first in a new family of VersaLogic Embedded Processing Units. EPUs combine processor, memory, video, and numerous system interfaces into an extremely compact embedded computer.

Standard on-board features include up to 2 GB soldered-on RAM and a microSD socket. The standard Type 10 pin-out provides SDVO, LVDS, GbE, SATA, seven USB ports, three x1 PCIe lanes, two COM interfaces, HD audio, LPC, SDIO, GPIO, SMBus, and I2C to the baseboard. VersaLogic also offer an auxiliary board-to-board connector providing two additional COM interfaces, two GPIO lines, and one CAN interface. The Falcon is compatible with most x86 operating systems including Windows, Windows Embedded, Linux, and VxWorks.

In a departure from their well-established high reliability PC/104 based product line, VersaLogic have applied the same strict quality and manufacturing practices to the PICMG Com Express form factor. Plus, offering a 5+ year availability guarantee and a 2 year warranty as standard on board level products you know your project is in safe hands.

VersaLogic offer a 45 day evaluation scheme where you can 'try before you buy'. Evals are limited to single quantities of a specific product (including memory and development peripherals) and an evaluation survey needs to be completed before the product can be returned.

If you would like more information on this exciting new product, or if you'd like to get your name on the list for an evaluation board please give us a call on +44 1672 511166, or email us - info@sarsen.net .

New and Enhanced Data Acquisition and Control Hardware from United Electronic Industries

Who needs the Argos catalogue? Write your application Christmas list using the brand new brochure from UEI!

Continuing to grow, the latest edition of the catalogue is 40 pages long and filled cover-to-cover, with information on the company's ever expanding product line as well as a number of new application stories, and an all new FAQ section. Request a brochure now from Sarsen Technology!

The UEI catalogue includes information on their growing list of I/O boards that are available for use with the company’s RACK and CUBE chassis.

One of the major announcements in this volume is the new performance available in the UEILogger. The overall sample rate has been increased by an order of magnitude and the maximum SD card size has gone from 4 GB to 32 GB. In addition the UEILogger now provides alarm outputs, and can now log data from the MIL-STD-1553 bus.

UEI have also used Issue 12 to introduce some new boards to their customers. The DNx-AI-218/228 A/D boards offer channel to channel isolation, 24-bit A/Ds simultaneous sampling and input ranges up to ±300 VDC. The new DNx-AI-212 and DNx-AI-222 provide high performance measurements of thermocouples/RTDs respectively.

In the avionics world, the DNx-AFDX-664 is scheduled to be released in late 2012 and will be UEI’s first product in the AFDX market place. It joins the existing line which currently includes ARINC-429/708/453 and MIL-STD-1553 interfaces.
There are also Strain Gauge Simulator and Arbitrary Waveform Generator boards, and some great software to run on them!
UEI now supports EPICS, the standard in the high-energy physics world. They’ve also released the UEI-RSS (Remote Serial Server) which makes the popular DNx-SL-50x boards look like standard serial ports in your PC.
